How to Stop Our Negative Self-Talk: 15 Practices

To overcome negative self-talk, there are several steps that can be taken, including practicing deep breathing, observing thoughts more closely, showing self-compassion, seeking positive perspectives, staying open to new possibilities, focusing on what can be controlled, avoiding worst-case thinking, changing the context, asking oneself questions, replacing criticism with positive narratives, engaging in cognitive reframing, playing, taking action, choosing what to pay attention to, and switching negative thought channels. It's important to understand that the voices in our heads do not represent who we truly are, and we can become observers of our own thoughts. In the words of Marcus Aurelius, "Our life is what our thoughts make it."
