MASTER’S PROGRAMME WITH THESIS

Programme : Master of Arts

Field of Study: English Literature

Introduction

The programme aims to equip candidates with knowledge of theories and practices relevant to the field of English literature. In this programme, candidates are exposed to the latest developments in World literature, American literature and British literature. The programme aims to train professionals from the public and private sectors to be specialists in English literature.

Entrance Requirements

  • Candidates should have a Second Class Upper Division Bachelor’s degree or a minimum CGPA of 2.75 in English language studies or English literature (Major or Minor) from UPM or other recognized universities.
  • Applicants with a CGPA of less than 2.75 or a Second Class Lower Division Bachelor’s degree may be considered if they have work experience (min. 1 year) in related fields.
  • Applicants who do not hold a Major or Minor qualification in English language studies or English literature are required to take three preparatory courses at the B.A. (English Literature) level in the first semester and must obtain a minimum grade of B+ for each of the courses.

Candidates pursuing this programme are required to complete a minimum of 18 credits of coursework. Credits are distributed among compulsory and elective courses as follows:

b. Other Requirements

i. Thesis

SPS 5999 Master’s Research

The candidate must register for the Master’s Research (SPS 5999) course. This is a research project course that will culminate into a thesis by the end of the programme. This thesis will be assessed and a viva voce will be conducted to ensure the candidate’s competency in field of study.

ii. Seminar

SPS 5903 Seminar

The candidate is required to register for a one-credit seminar course (SPS 5903). This course is design for students to present a research proposal. This course should be taken no later than the second semester of enrollment. The course will be assessed and will be given Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory grade.

Basic Fee

First semester RM 1,400.00
Second and subsequent semesters RM 1,150.00
Final semester RM 1,650.00

International students have to pay an additional fee of RM 1,000.00 per semester .
