Department of Malay Language

Introduction

The Department Of Malay Language focuses on the development of the Malay language in terms of language skills, grammar, and linguistics. In the field of Malay literature, the focus is on classification, criticism, and production of creative works. In addition, the Department has also focused on Malay culture. All these aspects are highlighted through teaching, research, publications, development and consulting. The department also focuses on aspects of translation and writing as both are increasingly clearly needed in the context of national development in the future.

The restructuring and integration aspects and areas of these focuses are in line with the concepts and goals of the integrated approach that combines aspects of language study linguistics, literature, and culture as a means of the formation of civilization. With regards to the focus of this, set we have ensured that the discipline will be able to grow wider and is well-planned. In addition, the establishment of this department also takes into account the planning of new programmes in the future so that the end-products can contribute effectively and meaningfully in order to meet the aspirations and needs of the country.

 

Objectives

To upgrade the linguistic and literary teachings to postgraduate level in order to generate dynamic individuals with skills needed in the fields for the global job markets.

To enhance and strengthen the competencies of graduates in a variety of languages and literature so as to become more competent and capable; to meet the manpower requirements of the culture of knowledge and to foster national integration.

To proactively upgrade and implement research and publications in the field of linguistics and literature.

To streamline and improve the terminology and translation activities in order to curb naiveté of knowledge.

To plan and implement development activities and professional services more effectively and sustainably in order to empower the Malay language.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

PROSEDUR UMUM PELAKSANAAN UPM-UKOM DAN KURSUS INTERVENSI

1.1 Pelajar yang perlu menduduki UPM-UKOM telah dikenal pasti melalui kajian rintis, iaitu:

  1. Pelajar prasiswazah UPM tempatan klasifikasi kecil dan ke atas

  2. Pelajar yang tidak memperoleh sekurang-kurangnya A dalam mata pelajaran Bahasa Melayu pada peringkat Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia

  3. Pelajar yang tidak mengambil atau tidak memperoleh sekurang-kurangnya C bagi mata pelajaran Bahasa Melayu pada peringkat Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia; dan

  4. Pelajar yang tidak mengambil atau tidak memperoleh sekurang-kurangnya gred C+ bagi kursus Bahasa Melayu Tinggi (BBM3401) di UPM;

1.2 Pelajar diminta untuk mendaftarkan diri bagi menduduki UPM-UKOM melalui e-SMP yang dibangunkan khusus untuk ujian ini

1.3 Fakulti/Pusat Pemajuan Kompetensi Bahasa (CALC) dengan kerjasama Bahagian Akademik UPM akan mengatur jadual ujian dan mempamerkannya di dalam sistem

1.4 Sesi ujian dilaksanakan secara berinteraksi dalam kumpulan lima orang

1.5 Setiap kumpulan akan menjalani sesi ujian dalam tempoh 20 minit

1.6 Sebelum sesi ujian, pelajar secara berkumpulan memilih tajuk perbincangan yang disediakan dan aspek khusus perbincangan bagi setiap anggota kumpulan sebagai persediaan perbincangan

1.7 Setiap anggota kumpulan diberi masa tiga minit untuk membentangkan pendapatnya berdasarkan aspek tertentu tentang tajuk yang dibincangkan dalam kumpulan

1.8 Dalam tempoh lima minit terakhir sesi perbincangan, setiap anggota kumpulan diminta untuk memberikan ulasan terhadap rakan kumpulan mereka sama ada bersetuju, tidak bersetuju atau memberikan pendapat yang lain

1.9 Setiap anggota kumpulan hendaklah mengambil bahagian dalam perbincangan secara aktif tetapi tidak dibenarkan mendominasi perbincangan. Dengan kata lain, semua calon mesti mengambil bahagian secara sekata.

1.10 Pelajar akan dinilai oleh sekurang-kurangnya dua orang penilai tentang aspek kemahiran berkomunikasi, iaitu bahasa, isi, dan interaksi berkumpulan

1.11 Keputusan UPM-UKOM akan dipaparkan melalui e-SMP dan pelajar yang mencapai Tahap 1-3 akan diminta mengikuti kursus intervensi Kemahiran Komunikasi Bahasa Melayu selama seminggu (28 jam) semasa cuti antara semester.
